WHY ARE SO MANY BEAUTIFUL PLACES LEFT TO ROT ? ITS CRIMINAL . WISH I HAD THE MONEY I WOULD TURN THEM INTO CLEAN CHEAP HOTELS OR HOSTELS AND EMPLOY LOCAL FOLK TO RUN AND MAINTAIN THEM. I CAN DREAM !

I can only think of a few reasons why I would leave home without gathering my books with me (would take an entire cart). All those books left behind... :faint:

Those poor books. I always wonder when I see pictures like this--what happened to make people just abandon things furnished and all. Such a powerful image, though.

Where was this taken (if you don't mind my asking, of course)?

It is possible that the building was abandoned because of the moisture and mold. If the mold was the reason why the building was abandoned then it was wise to leave the books (and many other items) to the building because those can be also moldy or include mold spores.
